excision of synovial cyst

Nicole Posted Thu 07th of February, 2019 09:22:26 AM
patient is having a 5x5 synovial cyst removed from the right anterior leg. Incision was deepened through skin, subcutaneous and through scarpa's fascia where the cyst was encountered. The cyst was excised in its entirety and subcutaneous tissues closed in layers and skin closed in running horizontal mattress suture. Would I code 11406 and 12032 or is there a better way to do this?

Hello Nicole,

Thank you for your question.

As per the above documentation, you can report CPT® code 27634 (Excision, tumor, soft tissue of leg or ankle area, subfascial; 5 cm or greater) for the performed procedure.

In this CPT® code, the provider makes an incision with a sharp instrument in the skin of leg over the tumor, which measures 5 cm or greater in diameter. He deepens the incision down through the subcutaneous tissue and fascia. He removes the tumor from within the fascia or from within the muscle along with narrow margins of normal tissue around the lesion. He controls any bleeding and closes the incision in layers.
