Excision of scrotal hematoma

Wendy Posted Fri 26th of June, 2015 16:23:11 PM

What is the best code for an excision of a scrotal hematoma? My doctor did NOT make an incision and drainage of the hematoma, he made an incision and cut the hematoma out. Thanks!

I forgot to mention the excision of the scrotal hematoma occurred in the operating room, not the office

Well, CPT 54700 seems appropriate to bill an excision of a scrotal hematoma. Hope it helps!

54700 says incision and drainage. Is that still appropriate when my doctor did not drain it, he excised it.

I understand your point, however I stick to the previous answer as there is nothing else but a hematoma is being treated.
