Excision of Right Forearm Varix

Oscar Posted Sat 05th of December, 2015 07:57:44 AM

Please answer the following coding question:
Pre-Op Dx: Right forearm Cyst.
Post-Op Dx: Right forearm Varix.

Procedure: Excision of Right Forearm Varix,
This is a 49y old male, had a several years history of a bulge in the right forearm which was progressively getting larger. Hence referred to my doctor for Exploration & Excision.
Actually I have coded and submitted as CPT 37799.
But, UHC denied as Invalid Code. Please suggest a right code for this procedure and clarify why UHC is saying Invalid code when it is there in 2015 CPT.

Thank you

Thanks for your question,

There is no specific CPT code for excision of forearm varix. Your code choice is correct.

UHC is a private insurance and it has his own policy. We cannot tell you about their policies. So, its better to contact your healthcare provider for more information about their policy.

Surgical removal or obliteration of varix is often considered cosmetic procedure and this may be the cause of UHC denial.
