Excision of perineal fistula tract

Leah Posted Fri 25th of July, 2014 10:28:32 AM

Our urologist was involved in a perineal fistulectomy. He was on the case because it grew to involve the base of the scrotum. the tract was incised from the base of the scrotum to the level of the seton that was in place by the anus. They cleaned up, debrided, and excised the tract to healthy tissue, and the wound was then packed with wet to dry dressing. Based off the op note, the anus was not entered for any of the repair.
I cannot find any code that fits this, and gastro is not my area of expertise, so I am asking for your guidance in how to code this procedure.

Thank you,

Code 46270 seems best match for the above procedure. You may bill this code.

46270 represents 'Surgical treatment of anal fistula (fistulectomy/fistulotomy); subcutaneous'.

Thanks !!
