Excision of fat necrosis of breast

Nicole Posted Fri 27th of January, 2017 14:29:21 PM
My provider is excising fat necrosis to patient's bilateral breasts and I am having a hard time selecting a code. In the past she has had a bilateral breast reduction and I was thinking about 19380 but was not sure if the previous procedure breast reduction constituted as a reconstruction. Any help would be grateful Thank You

Hi Nicole,

There is no code for breast fat excision other that 19380. However, there is possibility of reducing breast after its been reconstructed to bring it to the desired shape or adjust implant. In this scenario we can think of 19380 only. Sometimes if the previous surgery is for cosmetic purpose it may not even be paid by some payers.  Please feel free to ask for further assistence.
