excision of benign 5mm nasal mass under SMAS and dermabrasion 15783, 21013?

Tanesha Posted Fri 24th of January, 2020 00:54:53 AM
Agree with codes? No add'l incision for flap is stated. OP Excerpt: An incision was made in the right paranasal area dissecting medial and lateral subcutaneous flaps, dissecting underneath the SMAS layer to identify a mass, small pea size, and dissecting this out circumferentially and handing it off for pathologic analysis. Bipolar cautery was used for hemostasis. The flaps were then closed in two layers using 5-0 Vicryl in the deep subcutaneous plane and running locked 5-0 plain gut sutures in the skin.   Dermabrasion with a diamond fraise was used to take down the epidermis and superficial dermis of the entire nasal tip and dorsum and right paranasal area for a significant step deformity from stage I reconstruction with a nasolabial flap.

Thanks for your question.

As per the limited documentation available, codes 21013 and 15783 are appropriate to use. Also, there are no CCI edits for these two codes.

Hope this helps.
