EUS gastric cancer staged by endoscopic ultrasound. What CPT code?

Amber Posted Thu 09th of April, 2015 11:12:22 AM

Endoscopic ultrasound, limited to esophagus and stomach, diagnostic. The Olympus radio echoendoscope was easily passed in the esophagus, advanced down to the stomach. The balloon was insufflated with water and images were obtained. From, the gastro cardia, the tumor identified as an irregular hypoechoic mass lesion invading into and through the muscularis propria consistent with a T3 lesion. Multiple pull thrus through the stomach and distal esophagus demonstrated consistent with lymph node. To access this node I would have to traverse the tumor with a needle and thus FNA of the lymph node was not performed. The scope was then removed and the case was terminated.

Thanks for your question. The appropriate procedure code is 43237; Esophagogastroduodenoscopy, flexible, transoral; with endoscopic ultrasound examination limited to the esophagus, stomach or duodenum, and adjacent structures.
