endoscopic septoplasty

Melissa Posted Mon 10th of October, 2016 12:19:19 PM
I cannot find a code for a septoplasty performed endoscopically. The note says: A notable right deviation with spur was noted; this was addressed endoscopically with an endsopic septoplasty. A Cottle elevator was used to elevate the mucosa over the spur. Next the bony fragment was outfractured using the Cottle elevator and chisel"

Hi Melissa,

You are right, there is no definit code for septoplasty performed endoscopically. Since ethmoid is a part of nasal septum and there is removal of spur with septoplasty so we will bill code 31254, which will be closest for this procedure. However, if it does not suit with detailed documentation, we will go for unlisted procedure code 31299 (unlisted procedure, accessory sinuses). If you need further assistence please send some more details of procedure performed. Thank You.
