Endoscopic IT band lengthening with repair of the abductor tendon

Victoria Posted Mon 20th of January, 2020 11:34:04 AM
For Endoscopic IT band lengthening with repair of the abductor tendon our physician is listing codes 27025, 27006 and 27599. Would this be the best coding for this type of surgery?

Hi Victoria,

Currently, there is no specific CPT code to report for an endoscopic IT band lengthening and repair of abductor tendon procedure. Therefore, it would be appropriate to report with CPT code 29999 (Unlisted procedure, arthroscopy). When submitting an unlisted-procedure code, your documentation should also include an explanatory cover letter. An insurer will decide to pay an unlisted-procedure claim by comparing your procedure description to a similar, listed procedure with an established reimbursement value. In this case, comparison CPT code would be 27305.

Provided CPT codes can be used for open procedure only.
