IF PT. WAS SEEN FOR JUST BLOOD PRESSURE CHECK, DO I CODE 401.1 OR IS I WILL USE A V CODE. PLEASE SUGGEST THE RIGHT V CODE TO USE. THANKS YOU.

Thanks for your question. The correct diagnosis code would depend on the reason that the patient is having their blood pressure checked. If the patient has hypertension, then you would use the appropriate hypertension code from the 401 series of codes. If the patient has an elevated blood pressure with no hypertension diagnosis you would use 796.2 and for a low blood pressure with no diagnosis of hypotension you should use 796.3. If the reading is normal, you may use diagnosis code V70.0 for a general medical examination. Your provider will definitely need to have appropriate documentation within the patient's chart in order for you to assign a code. Hope this helps.
