EMG & Nerve Conduction coding for 2013

Linda Posted Wed 30th of January, 2013 15:00:53 PM

How would you code EMG 95886 x 3 for Medicare?

SuperCoder Answered Fri 01st of February, 2013 17:45:57 PM

When billing for two or more units of 95886, code as two line items appending modifier 59 to the second.

Example:

95886
95886-59
95886-59

Does this rule apply to Medicaid as well?

SuperCoder Answered Fri 12th of April, 2013 13:51:43 PM

Yes, code 95886 is for reporting a complete study, per extremity, performed with NCS tests (95907-95913). This is as per CPT guidelines.

Codes 95885 & 95886 can be reported together up to a combined total of 4 units of service per patient when all 4 extremities are tested.
