What would the cpt code be for an embedded iud in the uterus. The physician would have to remove the iud in the hospital because the pt could not tolerate the procedure in the office. Can I use cpt code 58301 removal of iud-- which is usually used in the office. what would be the icd 10 for embedded iud in uterus?
Do you know if womens health program would pay for removal of iud in the hospital

Well, in IUD removal procedure, provider places the patient in the lithotomy position and performs a vaginal examination to check the position of the IUD. He inserts a speculum into the vagina and locates the IUD strings. He then grasps the strings with ring forceps and applies traction to remove the IUD. Once he removes the IUD, the provider stops any bleeding and removes the speculum, if the same procedure has been follow then CPT 58301 is appropriate to bill. It also can be performed in hospital settings as well. ICD-10 is Z30.432-encounter for removal of intrauterine contraceptive device. Hope it helps!
