E/M question

James Posted Sat 05th of January, 2013 01:13:52 AM

My doctor had a surgery scheduled in an out patient hospital. When he got to the hospital the patient was there but was sick with the flu and they had to cancel the surgery. He examined the patient and reschedulded the surgery. Can I bill for this encounter? What range of E/M codes can I use for this encounter?
Thank you.

You cannot bill for this encounter. As per global surgery package policy, this is included within the surgery code. The surgery was planned in an earlier visit. Any visit to check the patient or to discuss any surgery related complexity with the patient between the decision making for surgery and the surgery date is included within the surgery global package.
