EGD with Polypectomy

Cindy Posted Tue 29th of March, 2016 17:10:01 PM

My surgeon performed an EGD with Polypectomy and cold gastric biopsies. CPT code 43250 is for hot biopsy and 43251 is snare., is there a code for polypectomy without snare or hot biopsy? I know the gastric biopsy is 43239.
thank you

There are no codes for polypectomy with EGD except for snare or hot biopsy.
The code range for EGD is 43235-43253.

I realize this, and I realize the code range, my question to you is what code do you use instead? This is the reason for my question to the experts. Thank you

If the documentation mentions just polypectomy then we will go for cold biopsy.
For an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (EGD) with cold forceps, use code 43239 (upper gastrointestinal endoscopy including esophagus, stomach, and either the duodenum and/or jejunum as appropriate; with biopsy, single or multiple).
