EGD on pt s/p esophagectomy

Glenda Posted Wed 08th of August, 2012 18:23:49 PM

Would I bill the EGD code with Mod 52 since there is no esophagus?

After administration of anesthesia, if the physician inserts a scope into the mouth which is passed (or is attempted to pass) through the pylorus (pyloric sphincter) into the duodenum and/or jejunum this is complete endoscopy, regardless if esophagus is present or not. Code it without 52
