EEG Video Monitoring -Code 95951

Luz Posted Thu 26th of February, 2015 11:30:12 AM

How EEG Video Monitoring,(code 95951)is coded when the recording is less than 4 hour duration?. Is there a limit of recording hours when using the mod-52 for 95951? The CPT guidelines states that for recording of 12 hours or less, to use modifier 52. I have not been able to find anyother guidelines on this. If available, could you please direct me to it. Your advise is appreciated

Thank you for the query.

1 unit of CPT code 95951 is for 24 hours of video EEG monitoring. If the provider performs monitoring for 12 hours or less, append modifier 52 (Reduced services) to the CPT code.

I apologyze for being so persistent on this issue, but guidelines sometimes could be greyish and I want to be clear and do the right billing. If the monitoring is one or two hours only, it is acceptable to bill 95951-52-for the last two or one hour, correct? Or is there a better code we can use.

Thank you

Thank you for the follow up.
I appreciate that you want to be 100% sure.
Firstly, there is no other code that can be billed for Video EEG.
Secondly for video EEG monitoring performed for less than 12 hours, the only thing we need to do is append modifier 52 to the CPT code for reduced services, even if the monitoring is performed only for one or two hours.
I hope this information will be helpful.
