our system has edits inplace... and I am getting an error that states E10.42 is a manifestation code and can not be in primary position on superbill. I am not sure if it is our system that is incorrect? per the cPT book guidelines this code does not require an the use of an additional code?! please let me know your thoughts. thanks!

Thanks for your question.

ICD-10 E10.42 is combination code for etiology and manifestation. To code this ICD-10 code, we do not need to add primary or secondary code for etiology or manifestation. We can use this code alone. if your system is showing error while entering this, may be this is your system error.

Because of this code structure, there is no instructional note found under diabetes mellitus codes in ICD-10-CM requiring an additional code to identify the manifestation since it is already part of the code description.
