Claim billed to Medicare for a bone density (DEXA) with dx code V58.69, hx of longterm (current) use of other medications. Medicare denied the claim for dx. After contacting Medicare they stated I needed a primary dx to go with this code such as osteopenia or osteoporosis. If the doctor suspected osteopenia and it was confirmed with the bone density can I use osteopenia as the primary dx?

Sure, you can code 733.90 here for osteopenia.
