Duraplasty with a VP shunt procedure

Deborah h Posted Thu 13th of August, 2015 17:32:17 PM

When a VP shunt is put in(62223) and the physician uses Dermabond to close the abdomen; are you able to code a separate cpt code for the Dermabond or Duraplasty; if so, what would you code. If you can't charge for the Dermabond or Duraplasty please explain why. Is the closure considered part of the procedure? Also, a piece of Stryker DuraMatrix dural patch graft was used. Please make sure you list all the cpt codes and/or the explanation. Thanks.

Dermabond will not be separately reimbursed, it will be included in the primary procedure. There is no specific HCPCS code for Stryker DuraMatrix dural patch graft, so you can bill it with HCPCS code Q4100. For Duraplasty performed on the burr hole location for closure purpose, will not be eligible for separately reimbursement.
