Duplex ultrasound

What is CPT code for lower extremity duplex venous ultrasound with venous mapping and insufficiency?

Thank you!

Your most likely options are 93970 (complete bilateral) and 93971 (unilateral or limited). Check your MAC's LCD and you may find specific ICD-9 codes to match with the code based on the indication for the study. You'll also want to check payer policy regarding use of G0365 for vessel mapping for hemodialysis, including arterial inflow and venous outflow, depending on the service provided.

Can I use CPT 93965 with 93970/93971? (Noninvasive physiologic studies of extremity veins, complette bilateral study (eg, Doppler waveform analysis with responses to compression and other maneuvers, phleborheogrpahy, impedance plethsmography)

Thank you!

Check payer policy. E.g., Novitas says, "Performance of both duplex scanning (93970 or 93971) and physiological tests (93965) of extremity veins during the same encounter is not medically necessary. Reimbursement of physiologic test will not be allowed after a duplex examination has been performed." LCD L32754
