drainage of pelvic fluid

Lynn Posted Tue 05th of April, 2016 06:36:31 AM

introduction of air via uterus and during preparation for the ultrasound guided drainage of pelvic fluid discontinued due to pts oxygen sat dropped. Do you know what code to bill?

You can bill CPT code 49407 with 53 modifier.

CPT 49407 is for image-guided fluid collection from peritoneum or retro peritoneum using drainage by catheter through transvaginal or transrectal approach.

53 modifier has to be appended to the CPT code for discontinued procedure due to change in the vital status of the patient (decrease in oxygen saturation lead to discontinuation of procedure).
