Double coding of a procedure

Clifford Posted Sun 11th of July, 2010 22:37:43 PM

CPT 21555, Excision, tumor, soft tissue of neck or anterior thorax, subcutaneous; less than 3cm, was coded twice for cleaning an infected cyst on my back.

Does it ever happen that a procedure is coded twice for a single wound?

No, you cannot report this code twice for an excision of a single wound. But, if there are two seperate wounds and the physician has perfomed two seperate incision then this can be coded twice with a 59 modifier.
