Documentation required for reimbursement

Marquette Posted Thu 19th of November, 2015 17:41:50 PM

What type of documentation is required for physician to be reimbursed for performing stroboscopy (CPT 31579)? In other words, does the doctor need to provide photos or videos to insurance for reimbursement?

CPT 31579 is stand alone code it self and used when the provider uses a flexible or rigid fiberoptic laryngoscope to look inside the larynx, or voice box, to detect the presence of any abnormalities. He also performs stroboscopy, which is a method of examination of the vocal cords in which the provider illuminates and vibrates the vocal folds with a bright light for a fraction of a second. There is no such requirement to provide picture or videos to the insurance for reimbursement for this specific code, until unless insurance company ask for it in special requirement. For reimbursement you only need to provide properly filled claim form acceptable by your payer.
