Diagnostic Scope During Global

Maria Posted Tue 09th of September, 2014 18:18:43 PM

After FESS (which has no global period), patients are examined with the nasal endoscope, and may not need debridement. Is it correct to report an E/M service and a diagnostic endoscopy?

Yes, you may report the nasal endoscope separately, just that do not include the endoscopy finding in the exam section of the E/M service. The E/M service must be separately identifiable from the scope procedure. Also, the scope procedure documentation must clearly mention that detailed examination was performed using nasal endoscope.

Also, append modifier 25 with the E/M code.

Thanks !!
