Diagnosis code for WIC forms

Bernadette Posted Thu 21st of November, 2013 12:26:16 PM

A pediatric patient comes in for a a hemoglobin check in order to have a WIC (WomenInfantChildren) filled out. Would ICD-9 code V78.0 (screening for iron defiency anemia) be appropriate to use with CPT codes 85018 and 36416? Please advise. Thanks!

The Lab generally bills out the 85018, not the office. '36416' linked to 'V78.0' is correct.

Thank you for your response.

We did the fingerstick and hemoglobin at the office, done by nursing. We test the hemoglobin in the office and we do not send out the specimen to the lab. So, would the ICD-9 code V78.0 be appropriate to use with the CPT codes 85018 and 36416?
