Denials code B-15

Nandi Posted Thu 30th of April, 2015 15:13:03 PM

When someone is admitted to our center using code 90791, we were told to bundle that code with 90833. Code 90833 is not being paid. We are getting a denial code B-15. what does that mean and how do we fix it?

In the CPT 90791, provider performs a diagnostic evaluation that includes collecting information about present and past behavior concerns as well as past family, medical, and social history. He also performs diagnostic tests to work up the diagnoses. This code applies to new patients or to patients undergoing re–evaluation.
And CPT 90833, add on service, the provider performs psychotherapy, a series of techniques for treating the psychiatric disorders of the patient, in addition to an evaluation and management service in the same session. The treatment session typically lasts for anywhere between 16 to 37 minutes and may or may not involve the patient’s family members.
As per CCI edits, both cannot bill together.

Tips to use these codes-
Use 90791 code only once per day regardless of the number of sessions or time that the provider spends with the patient on the same day.
Use 90833 in conjunction with 99201-99255, 99304-99337, 99341-99350.
B15 is bundling denial code.
