DELAYED Closure of A Stab Wound

Lisa Posted Mon 12th of August, 2019 09:29:25 AM
Physician performed a wound exploration of stab wound inferior epigastric repair, (cpt 20102 10 -day globla) however wound was left packed with intent to treat same day, but primary closure was performed the next morning, Would that be considered part of primary px. performed day prior??

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for your question.

CPT code 20102 includes exploration and closure of the wound. Since the closure was performed the next day i.e. within the global period, it should be considered as inclusive in the primary procedure performed and need not to be billed separately.
