Deep scallop technique

Angelica Posted Thu 08th of November, 2012 20:50:45 PM

11400-11646excisional biopsy. Is a scallop technique or a deep scallop technique, coded as an "excisional" biopsy using the codes 11400-11646? If not, what CPT codes would you use?
Thanks You,

If the pathology state that the lesions were completely removed and that margins were free/clear,code for the excision (11400-11646 series), the lesion has to be completely removed and the excision has to extend completely through the dermis to the subcutaneous fat below. If not, then you would just code for the shave removals.
