Hello Tammy,

Thank you for your question.

Decortication is a medical procedure involving the surgical removal of the surface layer, membrane, or fibrous cover of an organ.

There is no specific CPT® code available for Decortication of Retroperitoneal Abscess.

If we look at CPT® code 49060 (Drainage of retroperitoneal abscess, open), the provider incises the abdomen and drains an abscess located in the area behind and outside of the back wall of the peritoneum, the membrane lining of the abdominal cavity.

Kindly relate your medical documentation basis the suggested code, i.e. 49060

Note: If your medical documentation does not meet the criteria for CPT® code 49060, then you can report the procedure with CPT® code 49999 (Unlisted procedure, abdomen, peritoneum and omentum).

Hope that helps.

Please feel free to write if you have any question.

Thanks
