debridements

Linda Posted Sun 28th of September, 2014 08:29:06 AM

When a patient has sinus and septo surgery and some of the sinus surgery codes as well as the septo have a global period ie, 30140 and 30520, can you bill for bilateral debridement (31237) during the post op period by using 50,79 modifier on the debridement code?

Thank you for your question.

You may bill 31237 within the post op period with both modifiers 50 and 79 (unrelated procedure), however, the payer may request documentation to confirm the procedure is unrelated to the surgeries.
