debridement, graft and distal metatarsal resection for necrosis w/osteomyelitis

Tanesha Posted Thu 30th of January, 2020 08:36:17 AM
Metatarsal excision, debridement was done along with graft. Will the metatarsal excision be apart of the Wound Prep code instead of a separate excision code? Op Excerpt: There was necrotic tissue, devitalized tissue at the edges and base of the wound dehydrated tissue. No pus noted. Dehydrated bone protruding from the third metatarsal. Tissue was sharply excised back to healthy bleeding tissue at all edges and periphery of the wound. Distal portions of the third metatarsal was resected with bone cutting instruments. Wound was then fairly scrubbed with Anasept antibiotic scrub brush. Small blood vessels were bovied as necessary. It was thoroughly irrigated with antibiotic solution. ACell tissue graft was laid in place and stapled along the plantar aspect.

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

As per the limited documentation available it appears that the metatarsal excision and wound prep code should be billed separately.

Thanks.
