Provider did a hysteroscopy, D&C. Attempted Novasure endometrial ablation. She was unable to do ablation. 58558 and 58563-53. Is 58558 the only billable code due to edits?

Hi Wesley,

Thank you for your question.

D&C cannot be billed along with ablation in the same session. So we will just go with 58558 alone.

Most payers will deny your D&C claim because the ablation removes or destroys the endometrium, and dilation and curettage (D&C) removes the endometrium. For that reason, payers consider the ablation and the D&C to be integral to each other when the ob-gyn performs them together.

This is because both procedures are removing the lining of the uterus, and payers will allow you to bill for only one method.
