The doctor coded the following procedure with 17106 but was denied as a cosmetic surgery. I can not find another code that best fits this procedure. What are your suggestions? A 10-French scope was inserted in the urethra and found to have no involvement on the vascular malformation. Utilizing the laser fiber, the INDI YAG was used at the aforementioned setting to fully ablate the lesion with a total laser time of 2 seconds. Polysporin was applied.

Hi,

As per above mentioned report, doctor is performing lesion ablation via cystourethroscopy, so the appropriate code is 52214 (Cystourethroscopy, with fulguration (including cryosurgery or laser surgery) of trigone, bladder neck, prostatic fossa, urethra, or periurethral glands). CPT 17106 is incorrect.

Thanks
