Cystoscopy , laser incision of urethral diverticulum

Teresa Posted Wed 29th of April, 2015 16:21:02 PM

I am having trouble finding a cpt code for this procedure...the opening of the lumen was widened using a 550 micron holmium laser fiber, just wide enough to accommodate the opening of the rigid cystoscope into the lumen...

Marsupialization is procedural technique of cutting a slit into a cyst and suturing the edges of the slit to form a continuous surface from the exterior surface to the interior surface of the cyst. Check your documentation properly and match it, which is most likely seems marsupialization, then code CPT 53240.

I checked the documentation and this code does not fit....The doctor was performing a cystoscope, but there was ballooning of the surrounding urethral mcuosa, especially on the vental portion of the urethral lumen when irrigation was pumped in.......so he widened the opening of the lumen somewhat using a 500 micron holmium laser fiber....just wide enough to acommodate the cystoscope....is there a code for this or can I only bill a 52000?

Well, it seems that you can only bill 52000, but it is suggested to re-check the documentation whether ballooning is performed for ureteral stricture then you can use 52344 otherwise bill 52000.
