"The bladder was emptied of 120 cubic centimeters of urine and then 160 cubic centimeters of saline were placed into the bladder and vigorously irrigated. This was sent off as a cytologic analysis as a bladder wash"

Can I bill any other code in addition to the 52000?

SuperCoder Posted 8 Year(s) ago

You need to code only 52005 in this case because it covers the bladder washing and irrigation.

Wouldn't the use of 52005 require ureteral catheterization, which was not done in this case?

SuperCoder Posted 8 Year(s) ago

Code 52000 does not report the irrigation done and it is a separate procedure. Billing 52000 with 51700-59 may be denied. So the best option in my opinion would be to report 52005 with a 52 for excluding the ureteral catheter.
