CT Biopsy, Pelvis

I need help coding the above. report states a 17-gauge guide needle was introduced into the pelvic structure which proved to be solid mass and 4 core biopsies were obtainted. would I bill with cpt 27040.

If it is really Core biopsy, i.e. Core Bx are taken for Histological studies and a needle of up 18 gauge is used for Core Biopsy.
But, firstly we need to confirm if it can be considered as Core biopsy or not. A core biopsy happens when the specimen collected is sent for histological studies and/or needle used should be used for more than 18 gauze bore.
For if it is Core Biosy, the codes will be: 27040 & 77001.

NOTE: Note the difference:
27040:Superficial
27041: Deep Intramuscular
