CPT help

What would be the CPT codes for wide resection of retroperitoneal sarcoma (25 cm mass) with en-bloc right hemicolectomy and resection of terminal ileum, repair of duodenum with pyloric exclusion. Diagnosis Retroperitoneal sarcoma

SuperCoder Answered Mon 27th of April, 2015 10:43:09 AM

Considering it as an open procedure, I would suggest CPT codes 49999, 44120, 44140 and 43840 to bill for the given record with ICD9 158.0.

E. maria Posted Mon 27th of April, 2015 23:08:48 PM

Can we use CPT code 49205 instead of the unlisted 49999?

E. maria Posted Mon 27th of April, 2015 23:12:02 PM

Sorry, this was an intraperitoneal sarcoma. And why 44140 when it was a right colectomy? should it be 44160?

SuperCoder Answered Tue 28th of April, 2015 05:33:40 AM

I agree, for intraperitoneal sarcoma it should be 49205 according to the size of the tumor. And for CPT 44160 along with colectomy and resection of ileum, ileocolostomy creation is also required.
