what would be the approriate cpt code for a cauterize umbilicus of newborn. The provider sniped the grnuloma wiht sciszzors and then cauterized. please let me know.
provider is using 17110 with dx code 771.4 is this correct?

Thanks for your question. The appropriate procedure code is 17250; chemical cauterization of granulation tissue (proud flesh, sinus or fistula). 17110; destruction (eg, laser surgery, electrosurgery, cryosurgery, chemosurgery, surgical curettement), of benign lesions other than skin tags or cutaneous vascular proliferative lesions; up to 14 lesions would not be appropriate. For 17110 to apply, lesions include condylomata, papillomata, molluscum contagiosum, herpetic lesions, warts (ie, common, plantar, flat), milia, or other benign, premalignant (eg, actinic keratoses), or malignant lesions which is not the case in this scenario. The diagnosis code of 771.4 is correct. See the attached link for additional information.
