CPT for Scrapping the Tongue

Venkataraman Posted Fri 29th of May, 2015 13:51:30 PM

I scrapped the tongue of a patient to look for malignant cells; what would be the CPT for scrapping (not for the cytology or KOH). Tx

Well, the purpose of the test is important, if the part of the tongue is being taken to evaluate the malignancy, it is more likely a biopsy (when it is not for the cytology or KOH) so in that case you can code biopsy of tongue CPT 41100 or 41105 accordingly.
