My surgeon is wanting to know if the following procedures should be billed together when perfomed.

47701- Portoenterostomy(Kasai procedure)
47785- Anastomosis, Roux-en-y

Please advise ASAP. Thanks

CCI edits do not show any bundling in between these codes. You can bill these codes.

Yes i had checked the cci edits and that is correct.

My physician feels that when the primary code 47701 is performed it talks about anastomosing a Roux-en-Y hook to the jejunum, so this is why he feels that to complete the anastomosing code 47785 is the procedure code that has to be used to complete the surgery. Do you have any coding information on this type of surgery?

As per CCI edits, these codes can be bill together. But clinically, when you are doing Portoenterostomy procedure, you cannot leave the other end of intestine open, you have to perform anastomosis to complete the procedure. In this case billing of CPT code 47701 is advisable.
