Cpt coding for a conversion of left VP shunt to a biventricular peritoneal shunt

Deborah h Posted Sun 04th of October, 2015 11:33:31 AM

Please let me know how you would code a scenario if a ventricular catheter was also put into the right lateral ventricle and connected to the left VP shunt system. What would the cpt code(s) be for a conversion of left VP shunt to a bilateral ventricular peritoneal shunt?

Thanks for your question

There is no specific code for conversion of single ventricular system to biventricular system. The nearest code I found is CPT 62230 that we can use to code this scenario.

You would code 62230 for the ventricular catheter?

I suggested this code because this is for revision of ventricular pump, but after reading the clinical responsibility it does not fulfill the requirement. There is no other specific code for this scenario. I think unlisted procedure would be the best choice for this.
