Provider did a steroid injection into the introitus for vulvar vestibulitis. The diagnosis is: N94.819: Vulvodynia, unspecified. What is the appropriate code for the steroid injection? Thank you.

As such, there is no specific code for steroid injection into introitus, so as per above documentation, appropriate CPT code would be 58999 {Unlisted procedure, female genital system (nonobstetrical)}. Also, when submitting a claim with an unlisted procedure code, you should also send a copy of the documentation and a letter from the physician explaining the surgery or procedure, so the payer can determine reimbursement.

The other option is : If, for vulvar vestibulitis, pudendal nerve is injected, in that case, appropriate CPT code would be 64430 {Injection, anesthetic agent; pudendal nerve}.
