CPT code for I&D of retroperitoneal abscess

E. maria Posted Tue 31st of March, 2015 01:42:34 AM

Can you help me with the CPT code for I&D of retropenitoneal abscess and placement of wound VAC.

Patient was taken to the operating room and placed in supine position. Laryngeal mask anesthesia was induced. The patient's right groin was prepped and draped in usual sterile manner. The previous packing was removed and the cavity was explored. There was excellent healthy granulation tissue with no purulent drainage noted. The wound was then irrigated with 1 L of saline using the Pulsavac device. A Kerlix roll was then used to pack the retroperitoneal portion of the cavity. A wound VAC sponge was cut out to the appropriate size and placed in the groin wound. This was then attached to the suction canister at 125 mmHg continuous suction

CPT 10061 seems appropriate for the procedure.
