CPT code for fat pad biopsy

E. maria Posted Tue 14th of April, 2015 20:12:18 PM

The patient returns today for abdominal fat pad biopsy. A biopsy of subcutaneous fat is performed under 1% Xylocaine local anesthesia. The incision is closed with a 4-0 Monocryl running subcuticular suture. They are trying to rule out Amyloidosis.
Can you help me? What would be the correct code?

ICD-9 code for Amyloidosis is 277.3.

If the Fat pad biopsy performed through Fine needle aspiration, without imaging guidance use CPT 10021.
Other option is there to use 11100/11101 codes If you're billing a biopsy of skin and subcutaneous tissues (fat).
