Can this procedure be billed as 44385? Procedure: Ileoscopy; History of Colectomy; The gastroscope was introduced through the anus and advanced to the proximal ileum; Findings: The proximal ileum, mid ileum, distal ileum, and area at 35 cm proximal to the stoma appeared normal.

Hi Sherry,

Thank you for your question.

CPT® code 44385 is appropriate for the procedure performed. In this procedure, the provider passes an endoscope through the anus and examines a previously created small intestinal pouch and the anastomosis, the connection between the ileal pouch and the anus. He gently manipulates the scope inside the pouch and examines the area.

Hope it helps.

Thank you.

Now does this have to be billed with 44380 as well? Or if they don't state anything about going into the stoma, do we just bill 44385?

Thank you for your response.

You need not to report CPT® code 44380 additionally with 44385.

Report only CPT® code 44385 for the above procedure.

Please feel free to ask any further questions; if any.
