CPT code 31536

Paula k Posted Tue 22nd of November, 2011 14:19:25 PM

If the physician does a micro direct laryngoscopy with biopsy of the right vocal cord and left vocal cord can this code be coded twice with a modifier 59. Thank you.

As this is a bilateral procedure you don't need to report 59 modifier (59 modifiers is not applicable for identical bilateral procedure).

For Bilateral procedure we have three options
a.) use modifier 50 (modifier indicator - 1)
b.) may use as Modifier LT and RT (modifier indicator -0)
c.) procedure already priced as bilateral and no modifier is allowed (modifier indicator -2)

CPT code 31536 has modifier indicator as "0" which mean you can report this procedure with LT and RT in separate line.

Hope this help.
