Need clarification whether Z03.818, Z20.828, R05 can be coded together in a claim when Covid test is negative

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

For patients presenting with any sign/symptoms associated with COVID-19 (such as fever, etc.) but a definitive diagnosis has not been established, assign symptom code such as R05 for cough.

Code Z03.818 Encounter for observation for suspected exposure to other biological agents ruled out should be used when there is a concern about a possible exposure to COVID-19, but this is ruled out after evaluation.

Code Z20.828 Contact with and (suspected) exposure to other viral communicable diseases is used where there is an actual exposure to someone who is confirmed or suspected (not ruled out) to have COVID-19, and the exposed individual either tests negative or the test results are unknown

There are no excludes for these codes to bill together, but the medical documentation should justify the usage of the codes.

Hope this helps,

Thanks.
