Cortisone Injection into the base of the occiput

Elvia Posted Wed 24th of June, 2015 17:40:34 PM

What is the appropriate CPT code for a cortisone injection given into the base of the occiput for a Medicare patient. I billed a trigger point injection, 20552, but it was denied.

Check the diagnosis, if it is related to nerve, and provider gave injection in or around the greater or lesser occipital nerve, use CPT 64405 or 64450 respectively. But, if diagnosis is purely for trigger point in muscle, you billed the correct code.
