patient was seen in the ER pain and swelling of his right middle finger. he had been working with PVC pipe and had a fragment of it enter his finger just over the PIP joint. He was seen in the ER and had the fragment extracted under local anesthesia. Overnight the finger became swollen and sore pt returned to ER. the finger was red and very tender. Infection of puncture wound keflex 500mg 4 times daily warm soaks to the finger and rechecked in 24 hours (subsequent encounter).

Use swollen finger Dx as 729.81

Also add 915.7 & 729.5

why should those 2 codes be added.....can you advise who you are thanks

729.5 is for pain in limb and 915.7 is for superficial foreign body (splinter) infected so the code is more specific.
