Core Needle Biopsy

Cheryl Posted Wed 01st of June, 2016 15:34:42 PM
I need clarification on the proper code to use for a core needle biopsy of a pedunculated inguinal mass. The doctor used a Tru-Cut core biopsy device to remove a single core of material from the mass. He did it bedside in patients hospital room and no imaging or anesthesia was used. 10021 is not correct as it was not a fine needle aspiration.

Use CPT code 49180 (Biopsy, abdominal or retroperitoneal mass, percutaneous needle).
